WILSONVILLE, Ore., June 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT) today announced the availability of Mentor® Embedded software for the new x86 AMD Embedded G-Series system-on-chip (SoC) (previously codenamed: "Steppe Eagle") and central processing unit (CPU) (previously codenamed: "Crowned Eagle") product families. As gold-level members of The Linux Foundation's Yocto Project, AMD and Mentor Graphics have entered into a multi-year agreement to provide embedded developers with a comprehensive embedded Linux® -based tools solution.
Mentor Graphics' partnership with AMD provides an embedded ecosystem for software developers to quickly build Linux-based applications for AMD G-Series devices. Embedded developers are able to immediately begin their evaluation, prototyping, and development today by downloading Mentor Embedded Linux Lite and Sourcery™ CodeBench Lite products, both tailored for the new AMD G-Series SoC and CPU product families.
The AMD G-Series SoCs provide embedded developers with enhanced security, value and superior performance, ideal for healthcare, finance, education and retail applications. For data center and cloud computing, the new G-Series CPU family targets networking and communications infrastructure applications, as the devices support a wide range of peripherals – an ideal choice for control plane applications on router and switch line cards. Additionally, those developers who require support, commercial business terms, enhanced development experience, or customization services can easily migrate to commercial versions of the Mentor Embedded Linux and/or Sourcery CodeBench Professional tools.
"Embedded Linux and heterogeneous multicore systems are emerging throughout embedded applications," stated Kamal Khouri, director of product management and marketing, AMD Embedded Solutions. "Our technology partnership and collaboration with Mentor Graphics brings together AMD's embedded hardware and Mentor Graphics' open-source Linux software that provides our customers an integrated solution spanning a diverse range of markets and applications for optimized productivity."
