Men's Wearhouse Named on FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For" List
Men's Wearhouse makes its 11th appearance since 2000
HOUSTON, Jan. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Men's Wearhouse announced today that it has once again been named as one of FORTUNE magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For."
Men's Wearhouse was commended for ongoing activities including:
- Weaving employee training and development into its corporate culture
- Fostering a strong appreciation for its on-site tailors
- Honoring distribution center workers through an Employee of the Month program
- Offering fully paid sabbaticals
As well as being recognized for single event initiatives such as hosting a Pizza Day where Men's Wearhouse surprised more than 14,000 employees with a perfectly timed pizza delivery to every store across North America.
Men's Wearhouse has been consistently ranked as one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For" by FORTUNE magazine, making its 11th appearance on the list since 2000. The award serves as tribute to Men's Wearhouse employees as it is based heavily on employee input.
"This recognition would not be possible without the thousands of Men's Wearhouse employees whose knowledge and dedication to providing excellent customer service is reflected in the in-store experience," said Doug Ewert, Men's Wearhouse CEO. "Our employees have a passion for creating a fun, rewarding work environment that our customers also enjoy. That environment, combined with exceptional service, keeps our customers coming back."
Founded nearly 40 years ago, on the belief that employees should enjoy coming to work with a passion and zest for what they do, Men's Wearhouse hopes that employees view their position as more than "just a job." A corporate culture dedicated to training, celebrating, and fulfilling the true potential of all employees is key to the company's success as an organization. Employees of Men's Wearhouse have a rich history not only of giving back to the community but also of giving back to their peers. Men's Wearhouse employees banded together, for example, to raise more than $4 million for the Willie Lopez Emergency Assistance Fund, founded to help fellow employees who have experienced hardship as the result of tragedy.
100 Best Companies to Work For Methodology
To pick the 100 Best Companies to Work For, FORTUNE partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America; 280 firms participated in this year's survey. More than 246,000 employees at those companies responded to a survey created by the institute, a global research and consulting firm operating in 45 countries around the world. Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the results of the institute's Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about management's credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third is based on responses to the institute's Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefits programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring practices, methods of internal communication, training, recognition programs, and diversity efforts. After evaluations are completed, if news about a company comes to light that may significantly damage employees' faith in management, the institute may exclude it from the list. Any company that is at least five years old and has more than 1,000 U.S. employees is eligible.
