Men's Wearhouse Inc. Surprises More Than 14,000 Employees With Over 42,400 Slices of Pizza
HOUSTON, May 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Employee appreciation reached new heights this weekend as Men's Wearhouse Inc. surprised more than 14,000 employees with a perfectly timed pizza delivery to every store across North America.
To thank employees for their hard work and dedication, more than 42,400 slices of pizza were delivered to more than 1,200 Men's Wearhouse, MW Cleaners and K&G Fashion Superstore locations in the U.S. and Moores Clothing for Men stores in Canada.
"The belief that our company should be a fun and rewarding place to work is central to our corporate culture," said Julie Panaccione, VP of Events, who coordinated the surprise delivery. "Pizza was just one way to express our gratitude for each and every one of our associates' efforts."
In a note to all employees, company Presidents Doug Ewert (Men's Wearhouse Inc), Mary Beth Blake (K&G) and Dave Starrett (Moores) acknowledged what many North American workers currently feel — that everyone is busier than ever and there's never enough "down time. "With the simple gesture of having lunch delivered to all employees, the leaders underscored the celebratory corporate culture Men's Wearhouse founder and CEO George Zimmer established nearly 40 years ago.
"George founded Men's Wearhouse on the principle that it's more than 'just a job' for employees — that it's a place where we truly love what we do and the people we serve each day," said Ewert. "Our store employees commitment to excellence, in sales as well as customer service, has been integral to our success as an organization."
The pizza initiative follows a long history of employee appreciation, which includes throwing annual black-tie parties, maintaining an on-site child-care center, and offering fully paid sabbaticals. Earlier this year, the company appeared on FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list for the tenth time since 2000.
