MemorialCare Health System Hospitals Rank Among California's Best in U.S. News & World Report's Listings of Best Hospitals
Long Beach Memorial, Orange Coast Memorial and Saddleback Memorial Medical Center Total 19 High Performance Rankings
ORANGE and LOS ANGELES Counties, Calif., Aug. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In a rigorous assessment of more than 5,000 adult hospitals in the country, U.S. News & World Report recognized MemorialCare Health System's Long Beach Memorial, Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center in Fountain Valley and Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills 19 times as "high performing" in several clinical categories. In each procedure and condition for which extensive analyses were conducted, only 10 to 20 percent of the evaluated hospitals throughout the U.S. achieved the status of "high performing."
Each clinical specialty is measured on a number of factors, including survival rates, advanced technologies, patient volume, safety, reputation for developing and sustaining high quality care, nurse staffing and patient services. High performing hospitals consistently received marks of "high," "highest" and "better than expected" in these areas. These rankings are intended to help patients identify hospitals that excel in treating the most difficult cases.
Long Beach Memorial has appeared on many national "Best Hospitals" lists in numerous clinical categories since U.S. News & World Report began its annual rankings. In this year's results, Long Beach Memorial received "high-performance" rankings in nine clinical specialty areas, including three new categories of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair, Colon Cancer Surgery and Lung Cancer Surgery as well as Heart Bypass Surgery, Heart Failure, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Hip Replacement and Knee Replacement and Orthopedics. It is also among a small percentage of U.S. hospitals consistently recognized for outstanding dedication to patient safety by maintaining a top "A" grade in eight of nine Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Score evaluations for its ability to prevent errors, injuries, accidents and infections.
Orange Coast Memorial, ranked a top Orange County Workplace for five consecutive years and consistently voted by readers of the Orange County Register as a Top Orange County Hospital, also was identified in a large number of "high-performance" rankings in U.S. News & World Report. These include Heart Bypass Surgery, Heart Failure, Hip Replacement, Knee Replacement, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Colon Cancer Surgery. Orange Coast Memorial has been widely recognized for its commitment to patient quality and safety by achieving an "A" grade in seven of nine Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Score evaluations—considered the gold standard measure for hospital safety.
Saddleback Memorial Medical Center also received recognition by U.S. News & World Report. Additionally it has again been named one of Healthgrades 2016 America's 50 Best Hospitals and Truven Health Analytics' Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals in the U.S., consecutively voted Orange County's #1 Best Hospital in the Orange County Register's Best of Orange County poll of readers and has appeared on both Becker's Hospital Review and Thomson Reuters' lists of America's Best Hospitals.
