SUGAR LAND, Texas, March 18, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Quality Texas Foundation has awarded Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital the Texas Award for Performance Excellence (TAPE). Memorial Hermann Sugar Land is one of just three organizations in the state to be given this prestigious award recognizing strong dedication to quality and high performance.
This distinction takes Memorial Hermann Sugar Land one step closer to achieving the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. The Baldrige Excellence Framework is used by businesses, health care providers, schools, government agencies and other nonprofit organizations to improve and excel in their industries.
"Being the first Houston area hospital to earn this honor is an important milestone for Memorial Hermann Sugar Land. We are on a continuous journey to excellence utilizing the Baldrige framework, and this award validates that we are on the right path and encourages us to press on," said Greg Haralson, CEO Memorial Hermann Sugar Land.
The Quality Texas Foundation, known as a national leader in its field, was chartered to recognize the best organizations in Texas. The group uses an extensive evaluation process that includes hundreds of hours spent through on-site visits to evaluate and score applicants in several criteria.
"We see our overarching strength as 'family caring for family' and this award speaks to the hard work and dedication of our team to live that each day," said Haralson. "We're beyond thrilled with this statewide honor but our journey doesn't end here. We will move forward toward becoming a national Malcolm Baldrige Award winner."
Dr. Mac McGuire, CEO Quality Texas Foundation says, "Winning this award is extremely difficult, we want it to mean something." Dr. McGuire adds, "Memorial Hermann Sugar Land should be seen as a bright, shining light and a role model for other health care facilities in the state and nation. My mother is 90-years-old, I would go out of my way to drive her to a hospital that meets these highest standards. I hope patients, families, and employees truly understand the importance of this award and the required dedication to achieve it."
Memorial Hermann Sugar Land will receive the award during the Quality Texas Foundation annual conference June 22nd at the Crown Plaza, Addison, Texas.
"I want to congratulate the team at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital on this incredible achievement," said Dan Wolterman, President & CEO, Memorial Hermann Health System. "This is a big step forward as we continue our journey towards becoming the nation's first high reliability health system."
