Meijer Expands Cyber Monday into Weeklong Event

40 percent more shoppers expected to go mobile for best savings as hundreds of items steeply discounted during online sales event

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Nov. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Meijer is extending Cyber Monday into a weeklong sales event on Meijer.com, offering customers deep discounts and free shipping on orders of more than $75. The Midwestern retailer will offer Cyber Week savings starting on Sunday and extending through Dec. 7, announced Liwanag Ojala, vice president of e-commerce.

"The big difference for Cyber Monday customers is not what they are buying, but how they are buying it," said Ojala, who expects online sales from mobile devices to be 10 times higher at Meijer than in 2012. "Having less time between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the new trend will be multi-tasking between Thanksgiving football games, family get-togethers and shopping for deals on your smartphone or tablet. Our shoppers thrive in our seamless online experience and we're excited they'll have more flexibility to customize their savings for holiday shopping."

Industry experts say that 40 percent more shoppers will be using their smartphones or tablets to find deals and order online this holiday season. Spending is expected to exceed $2 billion on Cyber Monday alone, making it one of the nation's highest online shopping days ever.

The Meijer's Cyber Week event will offer discounts up to 50 percent off select toys, electronics and holiday decorations. Examples include a 6-foot Cascade Pre-Lit Christmas tree with 400 clear lights for $39.99 ($50 savings); Razor MX650 Dirt Rocket Electric Motocross Bike for $369 ($130 savings); Kettler New Holland Ride-On Pedal Tractor for $149 ($200 savings); and Polaroid Tablet and Bluetooth Keyboard for $89.99 ($90 savings).
