Meijer Again Leads the Midwest With Lowest Per-Pound Price on Turkeys
Midwest supercenter chain makes Thanksgiving Day meals affordable with turkeys priced as low as 35 cents per pound
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Nov. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Meijer is announcing aggressive pricing on turkeys this season and will continue to lead the Midwest in low-price Thanksgiving turkeys as the retailer works to help its customers have a memorable – and affordable – Thanksgiving meal to share with family and friends.
"Meijer is the place to shop for your Thanksgiving Day meal because in addition to the lowest turkey prices, we have all the staples to make it special and we definitely have the turkey size that is right for you," said Jerry Suter, vice president of perishables for the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer. "We have more than a dozen varieties of turkeys in varying sizes, which makes us very confident we have something for everyone."
While Meijer will offer its customers the variety and quality of turkeys they have come to expect, customers will most likely be more excited about the extremely low prices Meijer is offering on the holiday bird.
When a Meijer customer spends $20, they will receive $9 off any fresh or frozen turkey that weighs 10-15 pounds. For example, after spending $20, a 12-pound frozen Meijer turkey is priced at just 54 cents a pound, while a 12-pound frozen Honeysuckle turkey will cost just 74 cents a pound.
For those Meijer customers who are hosting a larger gathering and need a bigger bird, Meijer is offering a great deal on larger turkeys as well. When Meijer customers spend $20, they will receive $16 off any fresh or frozen turkey weighing 16-24 pounds. For example, a 17-pound frozen Meijer turkey will cost 35 cents a pound, while a 17-pound frozen Honeysuckle turkey will cost 55 cents a pound.
"With the national average cost of turkeys on the rise, Meijer is proud to be able to drive our prices down so our customers can provide their families with the best Thanksgiving holiday experience," Suter said.
Meijer is also preparing for increased sales of premade Thanksgiving dinners for those who want the traditional holiday meal without the time spent in the kitchen. Customer demand for premade meals at Thanksgiving is a trend that has been growing for the last several years.
A deluxe turkey dinner costs $44.99 and includes a 10-12 pound prebaked turkey, stuffing, roast turkey gravy, cranberry relish, whipped potatoes and green bean casserole. A deluxe ham dinner costs $44.99 and includes a 7-9 pound spiral ham, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, whipped sweet potatoes, roast turkey gravy and cranberry salad. Both deluxe dinners can feed between 6-8 people. Meijer also offers just the pre-baked turkey with stuffing and gravy for $33.99.
