Meet the Masters - Auctionata presents a two-session art sale
BERLIN and NEW YORK, Sept. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The online auction house Auctionata will debut its fall season with "Meet the Masters," a two-session art sale on September 24, 2015. Broadcast via livestream, Meet the Masters Session I will begin at 10 am EDT and Session II will begin at 2 pm EDT. In total, 247 works will be auctioned off, curated with both beginning and seasoned collectors in mind.
Session l, "From Modern to Pop," includes an extremely rare group of early Roy Lichtenstein works on paper that explore the artist's interest in the traditional still life genre, updated in his singular Pop Art style. One of the highlights is a signed pen and ink drawing, Still Life with Grapefruit (1972), which is included in the online Roy Lichtenstein Foundation catalogue. It has a starting price of $12,000. Session II, "Contemporary," features some of the hottest names in contemporary art, including six works by Jeff Koons. Of special note is the artist's limited edition sculpture Dom Perignon Balloon Venus (2013) with a starting price of $40,000. Inspired by the famed Paleolithic statuette the Venus of Willendorf, Koons reimagines the ancient totem in his Neo-Pop style, with a hot-pink, highly reflective surface.
"Meet the Masters: From Modern to Pop", will offer a selection of over 100 prints, drawings and works on paper by some the most respected names at auction. This session is highlighted by a strong selection of Pop Art works on paper, including four prints from Andy Warhol's Cowboys and Indians portfolio, a vibrant sketch by James Rosenquist, an original drawing from Keith Haring's first solo exhibition, and a large colorful nude by Tom Wesselmann entitled Claire Sitting with Robe Half Off (Vivienne) (1993) with a starting price of $10,000.
"Meet the Masters: Contemporary", includes photographs, prints, drawings and sculptures by commanding contemporary artists, including Sol LeWitt, Chris Ofili, Richard Artschwager, Alex Katz and Sui Jianguo. Robert Longo is strongly represented in the auction with works on paper including his 2005 charcoal, Study for New Venus (2005) with a starting price of $15,000 as well as an early drawing from his Men in the Cities series from 1981, and his iconic Frank & Glenn (1991) lithograph from the same series with a starting price of $7,500.
Prints & Contemporary Art Director, Deborah Ripley, states, "We are delighted to open our Fall season with a strong group of attractively priced Contemporary, Pop and Modern works on paper as well as a fine selection of sculpture multiples." The auction can be followed live on www.auctionata.com or via the Auctionata Live iPhone app.
