'Meet the Artists' at State Museum Special Program on Aug. 14
HARRISBURG, Pa., July 25, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The State Museum of Pennsylvania presents the second installment of its three-part Artists Conversations series on Sunday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m. Artist Robert Stickloon, of Pottsville, a featured artist in the Art of the State exhibition, and juror Maxine Gaiber, executive director, Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, Wilmington, DE, will collaborate to provide an insightful insiders' tour of the exhibition.
Stickloon, instructor of drawing and painting at Penn State's Schuylkill campus, holds art education degrees from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and an MFA from Idaho State University. He has two pieces in Art of the State, one of which won first prize for a work on paper. Gaiber is a longtime arts administrator who held leadership posts at the San Diego Museum of Art, Chicago's Field Museum, and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts before taking the helm of the contemporary arts center in 2006.
The third and final Artists Conversations program will be held on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m. featuring photographer and "Best of Show" winner Lydia Panas, Kutztown, paired with exhibit juror Ricardo Viera, Lehigh University professor of art. The programs are free with museum admission; no reservations are required.
Art of the State is recognized as the official, statewide juried competition for Pennsylvania artists. This year's show, featuring 135 pieces by 133 artists working throughout the state, is on display through Sunday, Sept. 11. Art of the State is co-presented by the Greater Harrisburg Arts Council and The State Museum.
The State Museum of Pennsylvania, adjacent to the State Capitol in Harrisburg, is one of 25 historic sites and museums administered by Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission as part of the Pennsylvania Trails of History®.
