Meera Venkatraman Wins PRSA Georgia's Chapter Champion Award
ATLANTA, March 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Meera Venkatraman has been awarded the March, 2014 Chapter Champion Award from the Georgia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (www.prsageorgia.org) in recognition of her dedicated volunteer work for the chapter.
The award recognizes members who have significantly contributed to the chapter's success and is given monthly or when appropriate. She was presented with a certificate and inscribed pen.
Since joining in 2011, Venkatraman has served on the College Relations Committee for two years, leading the logistics team for the Real World Collegiate Conference. While on this committee, she redesigned the conference printed program, created a social media strategy to engage attendees and worked with her team to develop the event's first-ever mobile app.
"I'm honored to be presented with this award and extremely grateful for all that PRSA Georgia has to offer," she says. "Being involved with such a successful chapter and having the opportunity to network and learn from industry leaders is invaluable."
Venkatraman is the social media and public relations manager at the Arthritis Foundation national office, where she directs the organization's social media and integrated communications efforts. In addition, she spent the last two seasons working as an Atlanta-based correspondent for Major League Baseball. Prior to joining the Arthritis Foundation, she was part of the Atlanta Braves public relations team. She earned a B.A. in journalism from Georgia State University, where she received the Vickie York Fair Award, which recognizes the university's most outstanding public relations major.
Because of this type of volunteerism, the Georgia Chapter ranks as the second-largest chapter in the nation and has been recognized for its best membership practices among PRSA chapters across the country.
PRSA's Georgia Chapter (www.prsageorgia.org) consists of some 850 members throughout Georgia. Its mission is to enhance the profession, provide continuing education and offer networking opportunities for its members.
The Chapter has monthly meetings as well as eight Special Interest Groups (Corporate and Employee Communications, Healthcare, Independent Counselors, Leader Board, Nonprofit, Technology, Travel and Tourism, and Young Professionals) that meet at various times.
The Chapter supports 10 PRSSA (student society) groups at the following colleges: Berry College (Rome), Clark Atlanta University (Atlanta), Columbus State University (Columbus), Georgia College & State University (Milledgeville), Georgia State University (Atlanta), Georgia Southern University (Statesboro), Kennesaw State University (Kennesaw), Savannah State University (Savannah), University of Georgia (Athens), and University of West Georgia (Carrollton).
