Medtech College Recognizes Medical Billers & Coders For "Cracking The Code" Of Insurance, Patient And Physician Billing
College Hosts Celebration for Medical Billing and Coding Specialists Week (June 24-28)
ATLANTA, June 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- In a digital world where virtually all businesses are computerized, everything runs on codes. In healthcare, medical billing and coding specialists are called upon to crack the codes of diagnoses and treatments to ensure patients receive the right treatment, and insurance or physician payment is both timely and accurate.
Responsible for organizing and managing health information, maintaining patient medical and treatment histories, and ensuring the quality, accuracy and security of the information being collected, they might be labeled as "the geeks" of healthcare...but they're much more than that.
Without the billers and coders, the system gets derailed. Theirs is a rewarding profession worthy of recognition.
A preeminent national healthcare education and continuing professional development provider, Medtech College is leading the celebration of these highly trained professionals as its campuses mark Medical Billing and Coding Specialists Week, June 24-28, and Medical Billers and Coders Day on June 26.
All Medtech College and Institute campuses will join in recognizing the significant contributions of medical billers and coders everywhere, and to honor their billing and coding students and staff for their commitment to excelling in this critical healthcare arena.
On Wednesday, June 26, campuses will host a "Crack the Code" Challenge to crown their champion student coders and present a special proclamation recognizing the profession and the campus' most outstanding Medical Billing and Coding Specialist students and instructors. Medtech billing and coding graduates and clinical partners will be invited to the campuses to present helpful tips and industry trends to current students.
"The Medical Billing and Coding Specialist program is an important one and we wish to assume a leading role in recognizing and celebrating our MBCS students and graduates for their significant accomplishments," said President and CEO John L. Hopkins. "Medical Billing & Coding Specialists are, and will remain, invaluable members of every patient healthcare team."
A rewarding career, medical billing and coding also offers strong growth potential. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2012-13 Edition, the medical records and health information technician field is forecast to increase by 21 percent through 2020. The BLS expects the current workforce of approximately 180,000 billers and coders will grow by about 38,000 during the next seven years, meaning an average of 5,000+ new professionals will be needed each year just to keep up with demand.
Career opportunities likely will continue to grow as healthcare technology such as electronic health records (EHRs) advances, expanded healthcare becomes more readily available to an additional 20 million Americans under the Affordable Care Act, and an expanding senior population lead to an increased need for health professionals.
