Medical Vein Clinic Opens New Center To Help San Antonians Suffering From Under Diagnosed Vein Disorder
Clinic offers free screenings for people who suspect they may have this disorder
SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Medical Vein Clinic opened the doors of it's 8,500-square-foot facility in August in North Central San Antonio with the sole focus of helping patients with varicose veins lead full, productive lives. The clinic's founder, native Texan John Hogg, MD, invested several millions in state-of-the-art equipment, patient-centric technologies and treatment areas. The clinic's staff of 24 is highly trained and experienced in image-guided procedures----some have done thousands of treatments---which are covered by insurance. Now, through the end of this year, Medical Vein Clinic is offering free screenings to those who suspect they have the disease.
Varicose veins, also known as venous insufficiency, are often under diagnosed as people assume their aching tired, swollen legs are just part of aging.
Due to its slow onset, it's often not recognized, but the disorder can be quite painful and limits people's activity. Those who suffer from varicose veins often work in professions where they sit or stand a lot. Heredity, trauma, obesity and pregnancy also contribute to developing this condition. Varicose veins occur when pressure on the legs causes veins to swell and valves to break. When the vein valves break, blood is not returned to the heart. Instead, it pools in the veins, often bulging and causing discoloration in the legs. Left untreated it can result in ulcerations, missed work and hospitalization due to complications. Because of this, varicose vein treatments are covered by health insurance.
"We see patients from 30 to 80 years of age," Dr. Hogg shared. "It's way beyond a visual problem. They are often suffering in silence. This disorder limits their lifestyle, comfort and day-to-day happiness. We help them get back to enjoying life again."
Prior to opening the clinic, Dr. Hogg, a board-certified radiologist, spent two years doing research, traveling around the US and attending medical conventions to connect with some of the top doctors in vein treatments. He recruited as his physician partner someone he considers one of the best in the industry, both technically and personally, Dr. Josue Medina. Dr. Hogg noted, "Doing the right thing is important. Dr. Medina and I have the same set of values: we believe in treating the patient, not the business."
The clinic's interiors look more like a relaxing, modern spa than a medical facility. The space is airy and open with white, bright spaces, comfortable modern furnishing and calming blues. It was important to Dr. Hogg to create a place where patients felt cared for with a location that is easy to find. Located at 622 Isom Road, close to Highway 281, Medical Vein Clinic offers plenty of free parking in front of the facility, so patients can just walk in. And, as these vein treatments are all outpatient procedures, they walk in, and walk out.
"Nothing makes us feel better than to meet a patient who has been suffering in pain, finding out this has been a problem and we can fix it for them," Dr. Hogg said. "Our clinic solely focuses on treatment of varicose veins. Like a professional athlete, doing these image-guided procedures requires a great deal of practice, expertise and precision. And, our patients benefit from this focus."
Medical Vein Clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. For more information, please call 210-622-8000 or visit www.medicalveinclinic.com.
