January's Nurse of the Month winner is Kayla English, RN, who works in the Cardiac Department at Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart, Florida. Said the patient who nominated Kayla, "A year ago I had a congestive heart failure and was admitted to MMH. I've been a drama teacher for 24 years, and it's my biggest fear that a former student will be my nurse or doctor and have to see me in very vulnerable way. My fear was realized when the night nurse came in. She said, 'Hey Miss S., I thought that was you!' I was mortified! It was scary enough being in the hospital with congestive heart failure and now the anxiety of this! Kayla was so kind and sweet, but mostly professional. She got rid of my fear and took such good care of me. But one thing I noticed was she did not give me any special consideration. She treated ALL of her patients as special as she treated me."
On February 8th, MSN's VP of Marketing Christopher Gamble and Chief Financial Officer Ruth Wallace presented several prizes to Kayla at its corporate headquarters, including gift certificates from Jupiter Uniforms and Trattoria Romana, and a Swedish massage package from SiSpa.
Said MSN's EVP and Chief Nursing Officer, Patricia Layton, RN, "MSN is proud to sponsor the Nurse of the Month contest because it enables us to acknowledge and reward caring nurses like Kayla for positively impacting patient's lives every day."
