Medical Economics Gives Inside Look at Health Insurer Performance Ratings
CLEVELAND, March 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- UBM Medica's Medical Economics has released the results of its 2017 Payer Scorecard – a physician-informed rating of health insurers' performance in key aspects of doctors' daily lives: communication, payments, customer service, and patient information.
With nearly 1,100 physicians participating from across the United States, the survey reveals the top three main points of contention between doctors and health insurers: negotiating reimbursement rates, claims denials, and obtaining prior authorization.
The survey also examines physician feedback on:
- Payment turnaround time and time in accounts receivable
- Denied claim explanations
- Time on hold and talking to provider representative to resolve an issue
- Communication with patient on copays and deductibles
- Phone system and website navigability
In addition to survey data, Medical Economics spoke with healthcare experts and physicians on strategies to overcome pain points in payer relationships and improve operations at their practice and for their patients.
"For the first time ever, Medical Economics polled its readers to get to the heart of one of the biggest physician frustrations: third-party interference," said Keith L. Martin, editorial director. "We frequently hear from doctors how their payer partners are hurting and not helping patient care. This survey and its related content can help physicians minimize that frustration and focus on improving patient well-being."
