Media Invited to Attend International Baccalaureate Conference of the Americas in San Antonio, July 21-24
SAN ANTONIO, July 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- International Baccalaureate, a non-profit educational organization, will host its 2011 Conference of the Americas on July 21-24 at the Marriott San Antonio Rivercenter. The Conference of the Americas is a unique professional development experience that brings together school directors, coordinators, teachers, district and school board officials, and university and government representatives. The focus of this year's conference is "Service in Action," featuring dialogue on aspects of how to make a positive impact through community and service.
Conference to Feature International Speakers
Attending media will have access to conference activities and featured presentations. Nearly 1400 attendees from around the world are expected. Conference speakers include:
- Khaled Hosseini: Hosseini is the author of the award-winning 2003 novel The Kite Runner. He is a humanitarian advocate and United Nations Refugee Agency envoy working to provide assistance in Afghanistan through The Khaled Hosseini Foundation.
- Maria Nieves Tapia: Tapia is the founder and director of the Latin American Center for Service Learning. She has promoted youth involvement through service learning since 1993 and was awarded the Alec Dickson Servant Leader Award in 2001.
- Craig Kielburger: Kielburger is the co-founder of Free the Children, an organization dedicated to the development and empowerment of today's youth. He also co-founded Me to We which is dedicated to the encouragement of responsible and ethical living. His latest book, The World Needs Your Kid: Raising Children Who Care and Contribute, features a foreword by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
- Linda Darling-Hammond: Darling-Hammond is a Stanford University professor and launched the School Redesign Network, Stanford Educational Leadership Institute, and the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education.
