Media Control GfK International Announces Third Quarter Music Industry Results

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Media Control GfK International, the leader in international media and entertainment tracking servicing the global entertainment industry, announced today the release of its Third Quarter Music Industry Study.

According to Media Control GfK International research, based on actual point-of-sale data, year-to-date physical market growth continues to decrease in Western Europe, but countries such as Switzerland, Germany and the U.K. are experiencing lower rates of decline.

Sales from music downloads, however, are increasing, especially within the German speaking countries. Austria ranked highest year-to-date with a positive (+) 55.5% growth year-over-year followed by Switzerland (+) 36.7% and Germany (+) 35.5%.  

Third quarter best selling artists in Western Europe were Eminem (Recovery) at #1, Linkin Park (A Thousand Suns) #2, and French DJ David Guetta (One Love) #3.
