Media Alert: November 4 Webcast Promotes Safe Medication Storage and Adherence for Older Adults
WASHINGTON, Nov. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A November 4 webcast from the Alliance for Aging Research features advice from experts on safe medication storage for older adults so medicine is out of the reach and sight of kids.
What: Medicine safe storage education has traditionally focused primarily on parents of babies and toddlers. However, of the nearly 70,000 young children who visit the ER each year after getting into medicines left within reach, 38 percent of the time that medicine belonged to a grandparent.
With the holiday season coming up, grandparents will visit and be visited by their grandkids in greater numbers. This makes it an important time to remind them to keep their medications out of the reach and sight of kids.
This webcast will share the scope of the problem and offer tips for the education of older adults on safe medication storage and disposal—protecting young grandchildren and curious teens from accidental medicine poisoning and abuse. This webcast will also focus on the importance of taking medications as instructed on a consistent basis, even when they are stored up and away and out of sight.
It includes experts from the Alliance for Aging Research, Safe Kids Worldwide, the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids, the CHPA Educational Foundation and the National Consumers League.
