MEDIA ADVISORY: Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice To Hold Final Meeting of 2016
WASHINGTON, Nov. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (the Council), chaired by U.S. Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch, will hold its final meeting of the year Nov. 15.
Representatives from several federal agencies will discuss ongoing efforts in areas of key interest to the Council: trauma-informed care, rethinking school discipline and reentry. The Council will hear presentations from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration on trauma-informed care and plans to expand research and interagency relationships, Department of Education on efforts to improve school discipline and climate through the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program and the Department of Housing and Urban Development on the Juvenile Reentry Assistance Program.
A representative from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) will present on the Department of Justice's Changing Minds campaign to raise public awareness about children's exposure to violence and trauma. Changing Minds was launched in mid-October and features short films, digital assets and print content intended to reach adults who interact with children and youth in grades K-12. Finally, the Council's Vice Chair, OJJDP Administrator Robert L. Listenbee, will lead a discussion on strategies that other agencies use to sustain work momentum and the implications of those strategies.
The Council—established by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act and composed of representatives from 12 federal agencies and 10 practitioners—coordinates federal programs related to delinquency prevention, the detention or care of youth and missing and exploited children. The full agenda is available at www.juvenilecouncil.gov. The meeting will be webcast at http://doj.capitolconnection.org.
