MEDHOST Signs National Interoperability Pledge
MEDHOST joins national industry leaders in pledging action to improve the flow of health information to consumers and between healthcare providers
FRANKLIN, Tenn., March 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- MEDHOST®, a provider of market-leading enterprise, departmental and healthcare engagement solutions has joined national technology companies and health systems in a pledge to implement actions to improve the flow of health information to consumers and healthcare providers. The pledge focuses on three key areas – consumer access, information blocking and standards – aimed at achieving an interoperable healthcare system that empowers individuals to use their electronic health records (EHRs) to the fullest extent.
Sylvia Mathews Burwell, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), announced the initiative during her opening keynote address yesterday at the HIMSS16 health IT conference in Las Vegas. Burwell applauded the efforts by participants to advance interoperability and create a future where electronic health data is shared seamlessly and is easily accessible to consumers and providers, regardless of where care is received.
The pledge represents an important step in securing stakeholder support and consumer engagement as part of the Shared Nationwide Interoperability Roadmap published in 2015 by HHS and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC).
"MEDHOST is committed to making health information accessible to consumers and healthcare providers across the continuum of care," said Bill Anderson, chairman and CEO of MEDHOST. "We have made significant investments in consumer-centric solutions that promote healthy populations and provide consumers with tools they need to manage their health. Our enterprise solutions are fully interoperable and support more than 1,100 healthcare facilities in improving clinical, financial and operational performance. We look forward to continuing to work with other industry leaders to break down data silos and achieve an interoperable healthcare system."
MEDHOST's pledge is one of several initiatives undertaken by the company to foster healthcare interoperability. Last month, MEDHOST was selected to serve on the Interoperability Measurement Advisory Team established by KLAS Enterprises. MEDHOST also serves as a contributing member of the CommonWell Health Alliance, a vendor-led interoperability effort.
