MedExpress Offers Tobacco Cessation Program
Available In All West Virginia Locations
MORGANTOWN, W.Va., March 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- MedExpress Urgent Care, a national leader in delivering high-quality, convenient and affordable walk-in care, is now offering a tobacco cessation program in all of its West Virginia locations. Individuals interested in quitting tobacco can visit MedExpress to receive counseling, quitting resources, support and medical advice from health care professionals. As part of the Affordable Care Act's emphasis on wellness and prevention, MedExpress' Tobacco Cessation Program is available, in most cases, with no out-of-pocket charges to patients from either MedExpress or their health insurance provider.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports 28.2 percent of adult West Virginians are current smokers, above the nationwide average of 19.6 percent. Despite the prevalence, West Virginians have shown an interest in quitting tobacco, with an estimated 6.4 percent of West Virginian smokers calling their state quit line − above the national average of 2.8 percent. As a long-time health partner to many West Virginia communities, MedExpress is pleased to be able to roll out this new program first in its home state.
"We're excited to offer tools and support to West Virginians who want to quit using tobacco," said Doug Wright, PA-C, Wellness Project Manager, MedExpress. "The choice to quit tobacco has immediate and long-term benefits for our patients and their families – reducing their risk for disease and improving their health. We're here to support wellness within our communities, and this is just one of the many ways we do that."
MedExpress offers treatment for illness and injury, occupational health services and wellness care such as immunizations, flu shots and physicals. A physician-led, full medical team is on site 12 hours a day, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., seven days a week. No appointment is needed.
Individuals interested in participating in the Tobacco Cessation Program should stop by or contact their nearest MedExpress location. For a full list of West Virginia MedExpress locations, visit http://www.medexpress.com/local-centers/west-virginia.aspx.
