MedeFile Enters Into Joint Venture With Sarah Jane Brain Foundation
BOCA RATON, Fla., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MedeFile International, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: MDFI), a leader in portable electronic medical records management, announced today that it has entered into a joint venture agreement with The Sarah Jane Brain Foundation (SJBF), a fierce advocate in the fight to create a model system for children suffering from Pediatric Acquired Brain Injury (PABI).
The SJB Registry announced its launch with over 20,000 members already enrolled. The Foundation's Sarah Jane Brain Registry is a one-of-a-kind data repository of PABI patient research used to help determine best practices in treating pediatric brain injuries. Every child or young adult joining the Registry that uses the MedeFile service, now has a simple way of gathering their medical records and storing them digitally. Their information is now instantly accessible for family, doctors, researchers and anyone else they authorize, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
"We created MedeFile after my grandmother's cancer diagnosis when we realized that spending time with her was more important than the hassle associated with contacting various doctors' offices to gather and consolidate her records," said Kevin Hauser, CEO of MedeFile. "We hope, and expect that this arrangement with the SJBF will alleviate this overwhelming task faced by other families during critical times. MedeFile will allow them to concentrate on their loved ones."
The SJBF was created in the name of Sarah Jane Donohue who suffered severe injuries at the hands of a nurse when she was just 5 days old. Sarah Jane's father, Patrick Donohue, launched the Foundation and the Registry so that experts and families would have access to the best patient research and medical records available in their quest to give children with brain injuries the best treatment possible.
"MedeFile is an invaluable resource for families of those suffering from PABI because it takes on the burden of gathering patient medical records. This saves families valuable time and energy, and it allows the information to be shared with doctors in an easy, safe and convenient way," said Donohue. "Having access to Sarah Jane's medical and therapy records has been a crucial aspect of her medical team's plan to provide the best possible treatment."
PABI is the leading cause of death and disability for children and young adults in the United States. Nationally, PABI is the cause of over 12,000 deaths, 18,000 permanent disabilities, and 1,000,000 hospitalizations every year. Children are not the only victims of PABI; because the brain is not considered fully developed until the age of 25, many injured soldiers returning from service in the Middle East suffering traumatic brain injuries are actually classified as suffering from PABI.
The International Advisory Board of the SJBF is comprised of leading experts from nearly every major medical institution including Johns Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, Duke University, and MD Anderson, as well as individuals from top research universities including Harvard, Yale, UCLA, and University of Miami.
