MedeAnalytics Posts Video Titled "The Budget Control Act's Sequester for the Remainder of 2013: What's at Stake for Healthcare?"
Research indicates for remainder of 2013 average hospital could see up to $1.3 million cut in Medicare reimbursement and the Physician Fee Schedule could be reduced by 3-4 percent
EMERYVILLE, Calif., Feb. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- MedeAnalytics, a leading provider of healthcare performance management solutions, has posted a new video titled "The Budget Control Act's Sequester for the Remainder of 2013: What's at Stake for Healthcare?". The two-minute video sizes up and analyzes the potential cut to Medicare of the Budget Control Act of 2011's sequester, which was pushed out to March 1, 2013 by the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, passed by Congress in January of this year.

Assessing the Potential Impact on Hospitals and Physicians
"The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, with its two-month delay of the sequester, reduced the total cut to federal spending in 2013 from $109 billion to $85 billion, a drop of 22 percent," says Ken Perez, MedeAnalytics' director of healthcare policy and senior vice president of marketing. "Applying that same percentage decrease to previously specified Medicare cuts yields about a $9 billion potential cut for the remainder of the year."
"We estimate that Medicare Part A would be cut by roughly $4.5 billion, and depending on how that cut is apportioned between hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and other providers, for the remainder of this year this could translate into a reimbursement cut of $0.8 million to $1.3 million for the average hospital," says Perez. "Medicare Part B reimbursements could be reduced by as much as $4.1 billion, and depending on how that reduction is apportioned between physicians, the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System and other providers, this could translate into a 3-4 percent reduction to the Physician Fee Schedule."
