Medbox, Inc. Addresses Compliance Concerns in the Medical Marijuana Industry
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., March 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Medbox, Inc. (Pinksheets: MDBX) (www.medboxinc.com) responded today to several reports about the medical marijuana industry. Medbox, Inc, through its subsidiary, provides consulting services to legal medical marijuana clinics, as well as a patented dispensing system that alleviates many of the common concerns about dispensaries and provides the highest levels of security, transparency and reporting.
A recent report in the Huffington Post stated that some Northern California medical marijuana clinics were ceasing operations due to pressure from the U.S. Attorney for that district. Risk of robbery was one of the main reasons the U.S. Attorney stated for forcing the closures. "Marijuana dispensaries are full of cash and they're full of marijuana, and everybody knows that," the federal prosecutor stated in an interview. "They are at risk of being robbed."
The Medbox ® system addresses these concerns by replacing the typical over-the-counter method of distribution and eliminating cash from the premises. The unit safely stores all the medicine in a secure steel-walled machine, and accepts credit or prepaid cards only. The system employs four levels of security to assure that the person seeking the medicine has a valid authorization to possess and use the drug and their identity has been verified. In order for a patient to obtain any product, their identity is first verified through both a special ID card and a biometric fingerprint recognition system. The patient is then instantly cross referenced in a secure onsite database to assure that their authorization is valid and that they haven't exceeded their limit on the product. Lastly, a photograph is taken of each patient and stored on a permanent hard drive. Records of each transaction are unalterable and available for review to demonstrate full compliance with all local and state regulations.
"Our system has gained positive feedback amongst city and state officials as well as patients because it takes the alternative medicine clinic out of the backroom and into full compliance with all state regulations," stated Vincent Mehdizadeh, CEO and Founder of Prescription Vending Machines, Inc, a subsidiary of Medbox, Inc. "Not only does our system ensure that only authorized individuals receive the medicine, but it provides an unalterable record of transactions for taxation reporting and transparency."
Other types of cannabis vending machines have sprouted up in recent days, including one in New Zealand that offers no security features whatsoever and allows virtually anyone to purchase marijuana without any verification procedure. Medbox does not condone or endorse these types of systems that attempt to skirt the law and ultimately undermine the legitimacy of the industry as a whole.
The Medbox system provides both security and compliance, allowing clinics to operate legally, legitimately, safely, and with full transparency.
