The first Lunch & Learn session, Building Our Own Workforce from the Community: Wake Forest's Story on How It Is Turning Military Veterans into Hospital Staff (Tuesday, March 1, 2016, 11:15 am – 12:15 pm in Room 202), will present the start-to-finish plan on how Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in North Carolina is taking an out-of-the box approach to dealing with a shortage of coders by hosting its own customized program to train and hire coders within its community in an accelerated timeframe. This innovative approach will also support the community in the placement of under-employed and unemployed military veterans. Additionally, the president of VT-HITEC, a Vermont-based non-profit that has successfully implemented this program multiple times and was the inspiration for Wake Forest, will also present on this workforce development model and how it can be implemented in any community.
