MDRejuvena, Inc. announces in vitro study demonstrates inhibition of hyaluronidase by sodium copper chlorophyllin complex (Phytochromatic MD™ Complex)
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- MDRejuvena, Inc., a private company focused on skin health, announced the publication of a research study evaluating copper chlorophyllin complex on the inhibition of hyaluronidase. This in vitro study, published in the August issue of Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology, showed that the sodium copper chlorophyllin complex contained in Phytochromatic MD Complex, has strong hyaluronidase inhibitory activity.
Inhibition of hyaluronidase (a naturally occurring enzyme) activity is key because it breaks down hyaluronic acid (HA), a critical component of the extracellular matrix (ECM) of the skin. The ECM of the skin is responsible for mechanical support, elasticity and hydration of the skin.
"Inhibition of the breakdown of HA by sodium copper chlorophyllin is an important finding, as it may enhance HA levels in the skin. This activity may be one of the main activities responsible for the anti-aging effects of topical products containing copper chlorophyllin," according to dermatologist and author, David B. Vasily, MD of Aesthetica Cosmetic and Laser Center in Bethlehem, PA.
In the study, titled, "In Vitro Inhibition of Hyaluronidase by Sodium Copper Chlorophyllin Complex and Chlorophyllin Analogs," several commercial lots of sodium copper chlorophyllin complex were evaluated to test sodium copper chlorophyllin complexes and their small molecule constituents for hyaluronidase inhibitory activity in vitro. In these studies, sodium copper chlorophyllin complex and certain components of the complex were shown to have significant inhibitory effects on hyaluronidase activity.
Salts of copper chlorophyllin complex are naturally-derived compounds with anti-aging, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-redness and wound healing activity. Sodium copper chlorophyllin in a liposomal complex, branded as Phytochromatic MD Complex, is a primary ingredient in the Rejuvaphyl™ line of skin care products from MDRejuvena. Copper Chlorophyllin has also been shown to improve clinical manifestations of photodamage in a study published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology in April 2015. Three products (Rejuvaphyl Rejuvenating Complex, Rejuvaphyl Rejuvenating Complex LS and Rejuvaphyl Rejuvenating Complex HS) are advanced anti-aging formulations designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, even skin tone and enhance radiance. These products all contain copper chlorophyllin complex, antioxidants, moisturizers, humectants, and anti-aging peptides in addition to varying concentrations of retinol depending on the patients skin sensitivity and prior experience with retinol-containing products.
