McRoskey Mattress Company Introduces New byDesign© Natural Mattress With an Assist From San Francisco Design Community
SAN FRANCISCO, April 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- San Francisco's McRoskey Mattress Company announces the newest addition to its luxury product line, the McRoskey byDesign© mattress and box spring set. This new mattress features multiple layers of the highest quality, locally sourced wool and a natural rubber latex core along with McRoskey's uniquely constructed innerspring unit.
Manufactured by hand at the McRoskey factory in San Francisco's Central Waterfront district, the byDesign mattress was developed based on the input of some of the area's most innovative interior designers and at the request of customers seeking superior comfort and support in a mattress made using natural materials.
The Birth of a Mattress
In 2008, the McRoskey product development team was introduced to the comfort benefits of using wool and latex in combination and soon after began crafting a mattress that would incorporate these two natural filling materials alongside the best of the McRoskey Classic mattress construction features.
Through trial and error, McRoskey arrived at a successful pairing of latex core density and thickness with multiple layers of wool and married that to the McRoskey innerspring unit to achieve the ideal comfort level.
Throughout the course of the development of byDesign, McRoskey also engaged in ongoing dialogue with and surveys of members of the San Francisco design community to assess what was important to them and to their clients. Their feedback indicated that design-conscious consumers wanted a mattress that afforded comfort, was locally made, featured natural materials, had visual appeal and was well constructed and durable.
Mattress Construction Details
Unique to McRoskey's byDesign mattress is the wool and natural rubber latex combination. The wool is sourced locally by the 100-year-old Woolgatherer Carding Mill, a local Northern California sheep ranch and carding mill. The byDesign features Woolgatherer's premium Eco Wool batting which is entirely derived from regional/domestic flocks of sheep that are raised following industry-leading sustainability and cruelty free standards.
At the heart of the McRoskey byDesign mattress and the cornerstone of its comfort is the responsive innerspring unit, unlike any other innerspring unit made today. It is formed from steel spring crimped hourglass-shaped coils laced together with steel spring helical wire. McRoskey's renowned box spring construction, which includes fastening steel coils to a well-built wood frame, provides a pressure absorbing support for the byDesign mattress.
The new byDesign mattress also sports a new ticking material. This knit fabric is soft to the touch with a visually appealing vine pattern in shades of soft green, taupe and beige.
According to Robin McRoskey Azevedo, president of the McRoskey Mattress Company, byDesign is the first McRoskey mattress to feature this combination of luxurious wool and natural rubber latex. "As with all McRoskey mattresses, the byDesign uses specifically selected materials and our time-tested construction techniques to deliver comfort that's supple, supportive and durable."
The byDesign mattress and box spring set will be available for order beginning in April 2011.
