"Their dedication and hard work created new opportunities for my generation and those that follow and I accept this honor in their name. It is important that the children of South Carolina and across our nation have the opportunity to learn of, and benefit from, the many inspirational, historic and diverse stories that belong to their local communities and state."
The individuals featured on the 2011 African-American History Calendar join a select group of individuals from South Carolina who serve as shining role models for children throughout the state. They have made a difference in their fields and their communities, excelling in areas as diverse as education, business, entertainment, sports, arts and crafts and public service.
