McGraw-Hill Education Appoints Dr. Heath Morrison as Senior Vice President of Government Affairs
Former AASA Superintendent of the Year Brings Experience and Leadership to Learning Science Company
NEW YORK, Feb. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- McGraw-Hill Education today announced that Dr. Heath Morrison will be joining the company as senior vice president of government affairs. In this role, he will be responsible for representing the company's government-related opportunities before federal and state legislators and regulators and representatives of local school districts. Morrison's team will also serve as advocates for McGraw-Hill Education on policy issues affecting the company and its industry.
Morrison began his career as a social studies teacher in Virginia and Maryland and quickly moved into administration, becoming principal of both a middle and high school as well as a Community Superintendent in Montgomery County, MD. In 2009, he was selected to serve as Superintendent of Washoe County School District in Reno, Nevada, and has most recently served as Superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Under his leadership, both school districts saw rapid gains in state test scores, graduation rates, and participation and performance in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses. In 2011, Morrison was named Nevada Superintendent of the Year, and in 2012, he became AASA's National Superintendent of the Year. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Planning and a Masters of Educational Administration from the University of Maryland. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in government from the College of William and Mary.
