SEATTLE, March 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- MCG, a member of the Hearst Health network, is proud to announce the release of the 20th edition care guidelines that serve as the foundation for MCG's informed care strategies. Updated to deliver assessments of the most current research and scholarly articles, these informed care strategies give providers, payors and patients confidence while making care decisions. MCG's Indicia and Cite solutions, which deliver 20th edition content, have also been updated to version 8.0 and are available to customers.
MCG releases a new edition of guidelines each year. The guidelines are updated after an extensive review of clinical research and publications by MCG's editorial team. In preparing the 20th edition, MCG physician and nurse editors evaluated nearly 138,000 references, incorporating more than 8,000 new unique citations into the guidelines, which now cite nearly 35,000 references in total.
This year's update is one of the most robust yet. The 20th edition includes 300 new Rapid Review Guidelines that allow for more rapid and efficient assessments of patients. Eleven (11) new pediatric diagnoses have been added and 82 guidelines have been modified to further enhance MCG's robust pediatric content. Also for pediatrics, MCG introduced a Neonatal Admission Guidelines Comparison Table that displays admission criteria for the levels of care side-by-side for easy comparison. MCG's Multiple Condition Management solution has been greatly enhanced in the 20th edition, growing from 15 to 60 guidelines. As part of the expansion, 7 new clinically active secondary diagnoses have been added to make a total of ten clinically active secondary diagnoses. The 20th edition also contains a new Private Duty Nursing Calculator that supports management of complex patient care at home. Additionally, MCG's 20th edition contains 103 new genetic testing guidelines and 7 new community-based mental health services guidelines.
Finally, MCG is proud to announce the new Transitions of Care solution that focuses on helping customers reduce the risk of readmission by better managing transitions between care settings. The Transitions of Care guidelines are designed to assess a patient's transition of care needs, provide evidence-based care planning, and promote patient condition self-management for patients with post-acute care needs. The scope of MCG's Transitions of Care Solution includes not just conditions where there are readmission penalties but also many conditions that are a focus of the CMS bundled payments for care improvement initiative (BPCI).
"MCG's transparent assessment of current research is critical if we want to continue to provide healthcare organizations with the informed care strategies that help them achieve their goals," says Jon Shreve, President of MCG. "Evidence-based standards of medical necessity and best practice care are constantly evolving. Having the latest research and data at their fingertips makes healthcare professionals feel confident they are making decisions that move their patients toward health."
