McCurtain County, OK Announces Rainbow and Brown Trout Fishing is Best in the Winter.

BROKEN BOW, Okla., Jan. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In McCurtain County – the Beavers Bend State Park area - winter fishing on the Lower Mountain Fork River is considered by many to be the best time of year to enjoy this Southeast Oklahoma trout stream. To make trout fishing even more attractive, most McCurtain County lodging operators have lowered their winter rates up to 25%.

The Lower Mountain Fork is a tailwaters fishery flowing out of Lake Broken Bow and includes a 3.8-mile Trophy section where boats and barbed hooks are banned.  Good fishing can be expected throughout the day. Cold, cloudy, windy, wet, and just downright winter weather can produce a lot of fish and some big fish. 

"While most of the country's trout streams are locked in the deep freeze, the trout fishing on the Lower Mountain Fork is red hot. The trout fishing is great all year long, but winter provides more fishable water, less crowds and the most predictable dry fly fishing of the year. November through February is my favorite time to fish the Lower Mountain Fork."
