GBTA Executive Director and COO Leads Working Group to Provide Innovative Perspective for Smarter Risk-Based Security Initiatives
ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 21, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA)—the voice of the global business travel industry—is pleased to announce that Michael W. McCormick, GBTA executive director and COO, has been named co-chair of the Risk-Based Security Working Group for the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) Aviation Security Advisory Committee (ASAC). McCormick had been named as one of the 27 members of ASAC, TSA's sole Federal advisory committee that gives the agency recommendations for improving aviation security methods, equipment and procedures, in November 2012.

"There is nothing more important than ensuring the security of the traveling public," said McCormick. "Although TSA works hard to balance security needs with efficient passenger and crewmember screening, this working group brings a valuable and necessary perspective to the table. We will consider new, innovative approaches – not just beneficial changes to ongoing risk-based security initiatives. This diverse working group has considerable expertise and is committed to providing definitive and actionable recommendations to TSA."
According to TSA: "This advisory committee enhances TSA's security posture through consultation with key partners concerning potential risks to infrastructure, passengers, and cargo. In addition, ASAC gathers input from stakeholders on the effectiveness of security procedures and develops recommendations for improvements to aviation security methods."
The working group on Risk-Based Security will consider a wide range of risk-based security initiatives to expedite checkpoint screening for qualified low-risk passengers. GBTA has been a strong supporter of PreCheck since its introduction and has applauded each of its announced expansions.
"Business travel is a driver of the economy and we can and should be doing more to make the low risk road warrior's travel experience more efficient. Expediting low-risk travelers' security check-ins will allow security officers to focus on travelers who require additional attention," continued McCormick.
