MBX's Jill Bellak Honored with STEP Award from Manufacturing Institute
Second Recognition in Two Months for Company's President & COO
LIBERTYVILLE, Ill., Jan. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Jill Bellak, President and Chief Operating Officer of custom server appliance manufacturer MBX Systems, has been recognized with a Women in Manufacturing STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Award from The Manufacturing Institute. The award stems from Bellak's role in defining, expanding and optimizing MBX's manufacturing business, which designs and supplies custom servers used to deploy software applications in organizations from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies.
The STEP Award marked the second industry recognition for Bellak in two months. In November, she earned twin honors in the 10th annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business, the world's top competition for female entrepreneurs, executives, employees and the organizations they run. In that awards program, she took Gold in the Woman of the Year/Industry category and Silver in the Female Executive of the Year/Business Products category.
"We operate in a challenging build-to-order manufacturing environment. Each appliance platform requires a different chassis, components, cabling, software configuration, testing, branding, and other assembly and integration services; many of the manufacturing processes are manual; and there is enormous room for error as well as efficiency problems because no two platforms are alike," said MBX CEO Tom Crowley. "Jill deserves much of the credit for developing and implementing the processes that have enabled us to scale, maintain quality, and attract as well as keep top-tier customers in over 40 vertical industries."
Bellak joined MBX as VP of Sales and Marketing in 1999. In her early years at the company, she was instrumental in shifting the business focus to the custom OEM server appliance market to meet demand from enterprise software vendors needing to deliver their applications pre-loaded on optimized hardware platforms.
Her contributions since then have included championing a major investment in a proprietary shop floor application designed to ensure efficient scheduling, quality control, workload distribution and on-time delivery; promoting advances such as the use of iPads and Bluetooth barcode scanners to streamline picking; and spearheading a 2012 move to a larger plant that has enabled MBX to achieve major new manufacturing efficiencies, including increasing the number of servers the company can build from 5,000 to 20,000 per shift.
