MBX to Announce IEC 62368-1 Certification Support Services at NAB Show
Assists in Engineering & Certifying A/V Server Hardware to New Global Safety Standards
LIBERTYVILLE, Ill., April 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- At the 2017 NAB Show that opens in Las Vegas next week, custom server manufacturer MBX Systems will announce immediate availability of certification support services to help A/V technology providers that deliver their software on turnkey hardware platforms comply with the new IEC 62368-1 international safety standard scheduled to take effect in June 2019. The services are incorporated into MBX's engineering and global logistics processes, helping technology vendors planning new or refreshed platforms with a shelf life of at least two years avoid the expense of recertification as well as the complications of customs rejections for non-compliant hardware.
The services leverage the expertise of MBX's dedicated Global Business Unit, which supplies multi-country logistics support for platforms engineered and manufactured by the company. Global capabilities include regulatory assistance for documentation, freight handling, and duties and taxes; overseas stocking, demo unit management, return diagnosis and repairs; software imaging, final assembly and re-manufacturing services in the EU and APAC regions; and more. The company will be exhibiting at NAB Booth SL5517.
Preparing for New Safety Standard
The new IEC 62368-1 standard updates international safety requirements for consumer electronics and IT equipment. It replaces previously separate EN 60065 and EN 60950-1 standards for the two product categories, changes hazard-based safety engineering procedures, and establishes a new risk assessment regime that affects both new product design and subsequent component changes.
MBX's global compliance specialists work closely with the company's engineering team to ensure adherence of platform design to the new standard and also manage the entire certification process. Services related to the new IEC 62368-1 standard include:
- Component selection to ensure compliance
- Prototype assembly for testing
- Selection of the Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL)
- Coordination of routine compliance factory audits with the NRTL
- Completion of test reports and other regulatory documentation
- Monitoring and managing technical files for changing standards
- Supply chain management to ensure proper certification for each country
"For any company currently planning a new A/V server platform or refreshing an existing one, failing to certify to the new IEC 62368-1 safety standard as part of the project can have major consequences. You'll have to spend extra time and money to recertify as the deadline approaches, you risk having shipments rejected by customs agents if you miss the deadline, and you compromise customer relationships if delivery is delayed because of customs problems," said Roger Lam, MBX Director of Engineering. "Working with a hardware integrator that is equipped to manage the certification process well in advance of the effective date can ease the transition and protect your technology investment."
MBX has been designing and manufacturing custom servers for A/V technology developers for well over a decade, including those in the broadcast, content delivery, digital AV, digital signage, storage, video on demand, video production, video surveillance and video transport sectors.
