MBX Improves Server Appliance Performance with Newest Intel® Xeon® Processor
Available Immediately for Customers' Hardware Platforms
LIBERTYVILLE, Ill., Oct. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Server appliance builder MBX Systems today announced immediate availability of the new Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2600 v3 series for use in customer hardware platforms, enabling significant performance improvements and other benefits over earlier Xeon iterations. MBX's in-house engineers are utilizing the updated processor line to develop new platform designs for ISVs and OEMs as well as to upgrade existing platforms as part of its component lifecycle management services.
MBX's status as an Intel Platinum Technology Provider gives the company rapid access to the new Xeon family as well as other new Intel products as they are released. MBX has been using Intel components to build customer hardware platforms for 14 years and is also a member of the Intel Intelligent Systems Alliance, an invitation-only program that supplies a variety of resources for developers and solution providers embedding Intel components in their end products.
"The workloads in our customers' applications keep getting bigger, whether they're handling storage, surveillance, video production, multi-format OTT delivery or any other function. We're always looking for ways to meet the demand for faster and more energy-efficient computing," said Jeff Luckett, MBX Director of Engineering. "With its new benchmarks in those areas and others, the newest Xeon series will be a cornerstone of our platform designs moving forward."
Key performance-related benefits of the new processor include Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (AVX2) instructions that boost performance up to six times over four-year-old Xeon processors, a 45 MB last-level cache (LLC) that provides rapid access to frequently used data, and new technology that supports intelligent storage services like deduplication, compression and erasure coding without compromising overall system performance.
The Xeon Processor E5-2600 v3 series also offers unprecedented density with up to 18 cores and 32 threads in a single chip, enabling a 64-thread-wide processing surface in a 1U rack space; DDR4 memory technology that delivers a 40% increase in memory bandwidth while consuming as little as half the power; and intelligent power management that reduces energy consumption when the server is not in use.
