Mayorga Coffee Strengthens Commitment to Certified Organic Coffee
ROCKVILLE, Md., April 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Having doubled sales of organic coffees from 2010 to 2011, Mayorga has a new initiative: to double sales of organic coffees once again in 2012 with the intent of making at least 75% of its revenue represented by certified organic coffees. Martin Mayorga states, "Our longstanding partnership with Costco has proven that a small, quality and sustainability focused company can make an impact at the farm level while offering the consumer quality and freshness. We made a commitment to organic coffees over ten years ago and have seen the demand grow exponentially from year to year, mostly due to the fact that we can offer quality at a great value through Costco's model."
Mayorga adds, "While people may claim that the yield of organic agricultural products is lower than conventional, our point of view is that the yield of chemically-enhanced agricultural products is unnaturally high. Moving to organic certified coffee encourages coffee farms to eliminate any harmful chemicals and pesticides from their soil, which is the source of their livelihood and an integral part of their ecosystem. It also promotes the use of renewable resources, soil and water conservation, and will generally restore the environment for future generations. Many of the countries where we source our coffees happen to be where I spent some of my childhood years and it's very rewarding to be promoting natural practices that will protect the farmers, the land, and the communities around it."
Mayorga Coffee sells its 100% organic certified Cafe Cubano at Costco Wholesale locations throughout the East coast as well as at Giant Foods, Stop & Shop, Total Wine, Whole Foods, and multiple East coast outlets. Mayorga Coffee began roasting and selling organic coffees in 2001 when it first received certification by the Maryland Department of Agriculture.
Founded in 1997 by Martin Mayorga, Mayorga Coffee is a Hispanic-owned, specialty coffee roaster with national wholesale distribution. Blending Mayorga's Latin American heritage with its focus on quality, Mayorga Coffee's goal is to make a positive impact on the communities where it operates and interacts. Through the positive influence of Mayorga Coffee, Martin Mayorga has evolved as a leader to promote Latin American communities in coffee origin countries as well as within the United States.
