WASHINGTON and MILAN, July 14, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A delegation of United States Mayors will meet with a delegation of Italian mayors, under the leadership of The United States Conference of Mayors (USCM), in the USA Pavilion of Expo Milano 2015 this coming Saturday, July 18. Mayors will discuss their role in helping to shape a healthy and sustainable local food environment, as well as successes and challenges in their respective cities. The two organizations will also sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Turin Italy, at the invitation of Mayor Piero Fassino, President of National Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI).

The Terrace Talk will be followed by a 30-minute media availability with the U.S. and Italian mayors at approximately 5:00 pm (CET).

This Mayoral Policy Food Forum comes at the end of an extensive exchange between USCM and ANCI, the National Association of Italian Municipalities, in which the two organizations will have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU).
The MOU establishes a cross-cultural exchange between local municipalities in the United States and Italy to explore and share best practices on such important topics as urban transportation processes that enable city economic and social revival; culture and tourism, the environment, and innovation; technological innovation; urban mobility; innovations in food policy and food infrastructure; and other ways of achieving healthier cities and healthier citizens in both the United States and Italy.
Each member of the U.S. delegation serves on the leadership of The United States Conference of Mayors, which is the official nonpartisan organization in the United States of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. There are more than 1,400 such cities in the United States today, and each city is represented in the Conference by its chief elected official, the mayor.
