SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky., Oct. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Students at North Bullitt High School (NBHS) were surprised to learn today that Emmy-award winning actress and neuroscientist Dr. Mayim Bialik selected their entry as the winner of Texas Instruments' (TI) "Express Your Selfie" contest. Students at the Shepherdsville, Ky. school received the exciting news during a videoconference call from The Big Bang Theory star during a surprise assembly in the library.
The back-to-school contest encouraged students and teachers across the country to submit selfies showcasing their favorite TI technology. In the selfie, submitted by the AP® Calculus class, students holding TI-NspireTM technology spelled out "TI" on the NBHS Eagles gym floor with the caption, "We make math soar with TI."
Bialik selected North Bullitt High School from among 635 entries based on the creativity of the photo and the clever caption. "What drew me to the selfie from North Bullitt High School was that it involved the entire class, highlighted TI technology and managed to weave in a healthy dose of school spirit," Bialik said.
During the videoconference, Bialik, the brand ambassador for TI Education Technology and a passionate science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) advocate, encouraged students to continue to use their creativity and imagination to excel in mathematics and science.
On top of the conference call, the class received a classroom set of technology – 30 TI-NspireTM CX handhelds, TI-NspireTM CX software and charging stations – valued at $4,500. "We are so proud of our outstanding teachers and students," said Robert Fulk, principal of North Bullitt High School. "They work incredibly hard and I am proud to see them shine in a national spotlight."
Bialik also selected five runners-up who will receive the graphing handheld of their choice. To see all of the winning selfies, follow Texas Instruments Education Technology on Twitter or Facebook.
