WASHINGTON, April 29, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NOF is kicking off National Osteoporosis Month today with the launch of its redesigned website: www.nof.org. The new website provides a more user-friendly experience and improved navigation throughout, allowing patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals to easily access the latest information on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis. The richer online content also makes it easy for those interested in learning more about bone health and preventing osteoporosis to find what they need and share it with family and friends.
An estimated 54 million U.S adults are at risk for osteoporosis and low bone mass. That means more than one-half of the U.S. adult population over age 50 is at risk of breaking a bone and should be concerned about bone health. For younger people, proper nutrition and physical activity are critical to reaching peak bone mass and preventing broken bones as they age.
"NOF.org is our most valuable tool for communicating directly with osteoporosis patients, caregivers and the public," said Amy Porter, executive director and CEO, NOF. "With its new look and improved functionality, the site is now more engaging and easier for users to access the quality content they've come to expect from NOF."
New content on the website includes information about the importance of clinical research and greater emphasis on the importance of nutrition for bone health. A new "Food for Thought" online pop quiz and updated "Your Guide to a Bone Healthy Diet" brochure, made possible with support from Sunsweet Growers, Inc., underscore the important role diet plays in preventing and managing osteoporosis.
Break Free from Osteoporosis
In addition to launching the redesigned website, NOF is issuing a call to action for the public to Break Free from Osteoporosis by offering free resources for the public and health professionals.
In partnership with NeedyMeds.org, NOF is offering a free webinar on Monday, May 23rd at 2PM Eastern. NOF Clinical Director, Dr. Andrea Singer, will discuss the recently released Medicines in Development report and provide information on current treatment options available for osteoporosis.
To learn more about the Break Free from Osteoporosis campaign, download free resource materials and to register for the webinar, please visit www.nof.org.
