May is National Aging Life Care Month

BOSTON, May 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Aging Life Care Association (ALCA) New England Chapter, the nonprofit association representing leaders in the field of Aging Life Care™ (geriatric care management), today announced it will celebrate the profession throughout the month of May with a series of seminars, webinars and special events. This is the second consecutive year the ALCA has held "National Aging Life Care Month" in May, which coincides with Older Americans Month.

"While the practice and profession of Aging Life Care is not new, there is much more attention being paid to the impact our aging population has on communities and resources," said Kaaren Boothroyd, CEO, ALCA. "Our association was the first to represent these pioneers in a growing and developing field," explained Boothroyd.

The Aging Life Care Professional is a health and human services specialist who is a guide, advocate, and resource for families caring for an older relative or disabled adult. These experts are trained in a number of fields related to long-term care including counseling, gerontology, mental health, nursing, occupational therapy, psychology, social work, and other allied health professions with a specialized focus on aging.

The ALCA New England Chapter boasts 240 members who have master's degree level training and are available to assist families with issues such as appropriate housing, home care, medical management, communication, social activities, legal and financial, entitlements, and safety and security at home. Co-presidents of the New England Chapter are Susan Lewin, LICSW, CMC, FCM, and Barbara Cannon, BA, LSW, CMC.
