MaxID Selected for IDIQ Contract Award for TWIC Readers and Software from US Coast Guard
FAIRFAX, Va. and CHESAPEAKE, Va., Nov. 16, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- MaxID, a leading provider of identity solutions, was awarded in conjunction with its teaming partner, P-SIG of Chesapeake, Virginia, an Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract by the United States Coast Guard for Transportation Workers Identity Credential (TWIC) readers and software.
The contract is valued at $2.2 million in potential future orders. The US Coast Guard has purchased and deployed MaxID iDLMAX multi-modal handheld computers over the past year for TWIC enforcement and High Interest Vessel (HIV) interdiction.
TWIC was established in the Maritime Transportation Security Act and the Security and Accountability for Every Port Act to serve as an identification program for all Coast Guard credential mariners and personnel requiring unescorted access to secure areas within a port. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) are responsible for implementing the TWIC program. The Coast Guard is responsible for enforcing TWIC compliance, providing guidance to assist industry with compliance, conducting spot-check/annual inspections, reviewing and approving security plans, and working with TSA towards successful integration.
"MaxID is very pleased to assist the US Coast Guard with advancing their TWIC compliance efforts, particularly with their choice of the iDLMAX mobile TWIC reader and the MaxIDentity software solution. By meeting the demanding requirements of the Coast Guard for both TWIC readers and TWIC software, our solution should prove well suited for the MTSA-regulated facilities and vessels -- including ports, warehouses, passenger and cargo vessels, and deep water ports/oil platforms," says Michael McCloskey, Chairman of MaxID Corp.
"P-SIG is excited about this award and the opportunities available to assist in TWIC enforcement and compliance through the use of MaxID's mobile reader and software with our long-standing customer, the US Coast Guard," says Jim Parroco, President of P-SIG.
The iDLMAX is a multi-modal, rugged mobile computer that offers a complete set of features including QWERTY keyboard, contact card, contactless card, barcode, optical fingerprint, and optional magnetic swipe and MRZ readers with a digital camera, GPS, and comprehensive communications capabilities including GSM, Bluetooth and WiFi. The iDLMAX is a complete, integrated mobile solution for all badging, field-based enrollment and identity management requirements.
The MaxIDentity Suite contains a series of ready-to-use applications to read PIV, PIV-I, TWIC, CAC, FiXS and FRAC smart cards as well as passports, ePassports, Seafarer ID cards and driver's licenses. The product can be purchased using the Software-As-A-Service (SaaS) model, so organizations can pay a low monthly fee for the application suite as an alternative to purchasing outright. The suite is available on the MaxID line of multimodal products including the iDL500, iDL502 and iDL520 today. The MaxIDentity Suite can connect directly to cloud-based MaxIDentity Services with a 3G or WiFi connection and subscription. The MaxIDentity Suite was jointly developed by MaxID Corporation based in Fairfax, Virginia and MultiModal ID, LLC based in Falls Church, Virginia.
The United States Coast Guard is expected to have approximately 170 MaxID TWIC readers with MaxIDentity TWIC software deployed in the field by year-end.
