The new channel brings the best international content and award-winning programming, now with English subtitles
MIAMI, Jan. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- HBO Latin America announced the launch of the new English-language feed for MAX in the Caribbean, bringing all the award-winning international films, documentaries and series to subscribers of the HBO/MAX premium package as of February 1st. The channel has a fresh and colorful image that reflects the sounds, sites and energy of the Caribbean. It features unique and exciting stories from a variety of genres, with audio broadcasted in the program's original language but now subtitled in English.
"HBO Latin America is dedicated to continuing to seek ways in which to strengthen our commitment to our subscribers throughout the region, and launching this English-language feed for MAX demonstrates just that. This new channel is tailored exclusively for the Caribbean in order to satisfy the audience's needs, bringing them the quality premium content they have come to expect so they can enjoy all that the HBO/MAX premium package has to offer," said Gustavo Grossmann, VP & GM of Networks for HBO Latin America.
The channel will feature exclusive weekly film premieres from the most respected directors and internationally recognized actors, with independent titles on Saturdays and blockbuster hits on Sundays. Some of this year's many titles include:
- The Master, written and directed by Paul Anderson and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams. Freddie Quell, a World War II veteran, is struggling to readjust to society and finds a religious movement to follow called "The Cause." The film won the Volpi Cup at the Venice Film Festival and was nominated for three Oscars and three Golden Globes in 2012.
- The Place Beyond the Pines, starring Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes and Ray Liotta. The movie tells the story of a stunt motorcyclist who turns to robbing banks to support the son he never knew he had. A dark twist shifts the focus onto a cop whose decisions as a rookie come back to haunt him 15 years later.
- To Rome with Love, written, directed by and starring Woody Allen. The film features an ensemble cast: Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penelope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg and Ellen Page. It tells the stories of a clerk, an architect, a young couple and an Italian funeral director, as visitors and residents of Rome alike, and the romances, adventures and predicaments they get into.
- Kon-Tiki, directed by Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg. This historical drama film is based on Thor Heyerdahl's 1947 expedition across the Pacific Ocean from South America to the Polynesian islands. It was the first Norwegian film to be nominated for both an Oscar and Golden Globe.
Additionally, every Tuesday, viewers can enjoy documentaries covering various topics, including the biographical documentary Marley, detailing Bob Marley's life and music career though testimonies from those who knew him best. In Searching for Sugar Man, winner of the 2013 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, two eager fans from Cape Town go on a search for American folk musician Sixto Rodriguez, whose short career still garnered a huge fan base for him in South Africa.
In series, MAX will premiere Borgia, a one-hour drama from creator Tom Fontana, chronicling the rise to power of the Borgia family form Spain, as they became some of the most prominent and infamous leaders in both politics and religion during the Renaissance. Real Humans, a Swedish sci-fi drama premiering in March, takes place present-day in a world parallel to our own, in which Hubots (humanoid robots) have replaced many human roles and tasks, and shows how humans are coping with their changing world.
The new MAX Caribbean feed is available for all the non-United States territory Caribbean countries such as Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Curacao, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Curacao, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent and Trinidad & Tobago.
