SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Hornet, the world's premier gay social network, today announced that veteran LGBTQ advertising and sales expert Matthew Smith will join the brand's growing executive team as senior vice president of global sales. Smith will drive the overall advertising revenue strategy and execution. He will work closely with Hornet President, Sean Howell, in developing a comprehensive global marketing strategy incorporating various languages, regions, platforms, clients and needed sales solutions.
"It's a thrill and a privilege to join the stellar team at Hornet as we work to build a robust digital home for the gay community," said Smith. "For decades, brand partnerships have been pivotal in advancing our cultural conversation--the future is about marrying that commitment with cutting-edge technology that fosters meaningful relationships. Hornet's approach is a game changer for gay men and the brands who engage us."
As the publishing industry continues to evolve, Hornet has grown and adapted its content creation to serve its members who are consuming news quickly and on-the-go using their mobile devices. Smith will now lead a team of sales executives to create and execute advertising and marketing programs for current and future Hornet partners seeking innovative digital solutions to reach a targeted demographic.
Smith brings to Hornet vast experience working with high-profile consumer brands and extensive cross-platform content expertise. He has held sales and executive leadership positions with both legacy and startup publishing powerhouses such as OUT, WIRED, Fast Company and, most recently, with Dr. Oz THE GOOD LIFE at Hearst. Throughout his career, Smith has spearheaded many firsts within the media publishing industry, including helping lead Mercedes-Benz USA's first LGBTQ-targeted campaign, "When You Know, You Know."
"As Hornet brings native content and broader, integrated brand opportunities to its clients, Matthew's creativity, forward-thinking and digital solution approach will move our platform to the forefront of LGBTQ social networking," said Hornet President, Sean Howell.
Smith will be based in New York and report to Hornet CEO, Christof Wittig.
