GLENSIDE, Pa., Oct. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Arcadia University announced that Matthew Golden, Ed.D., has been appointed vice president for University Relations. Dr. Golden, who brings extensive experience in strategic communications and external relations in higher education, began his position at Arcadia Oct. 1.
Dr. Golden will lead Arcadia's newly formed University Relations unit, responsible for oversight of internal and external communications strategy, government relations, community development initiatives, print and web development, marketing, and brand strategy. Working in alignment with the University's overall mission, goals, and strategic planning efforts, Dr. Golden also will serve as the University's spokesperson.

"His experience in higher education and with state government will serve him well in this new role. Most recently, Dr. Golden was associate vice president for communications, marketing, and branding at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). He directed NJIT's internal, external, and strategic communications, including media relations, emergency communications, publications, and marketing and editorial services. Prior to NJIT, he served in a similar capacity for nearly nine years at The College of New Jersey, where he enhanced media relations, executive communications, and supported government, community, and alumni relations initiatives.

Dr. Golden also served as deputy director of communications at the New Jersey Department of the Treasury, serving as spokesperson for New Jersey's State Treasurer, and as assistant director of University Relations at Kean University.
Dr. Golden earned a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration and Leadership from The George Washington University, a Master of Communications from Rutgers University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Princeton University. He brings to Arcadia extensive crisis management experience after having successfully completed training with the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency's Enhanced Incident Management Command program. Dr. Golden also has experience as an editor and a writer for the Princeton Alumni Weekly.
