Toronto man earns contract with The Score Television Network and becomes the face of Gillette in Canada
TORONTO, Nov. 14, 2012 /CNW/ - The Score Television Network and Gillette Canada are proud to announce this season's winner of Gillette DRAFTED - Matt Drappel! Matt, 27, was unveiled as the victor on the live season finale, earning himself a one-year contract with The Score Television Network and a one-year spokesperson contract with Gillette Canada.
The Toronto-based stand-up comedian, also known as "Matty D", will begin his new job as a national TV sports broadcaster next month. His reward follows an intense audition and online voting process, with Matt fending-off competition from five other finalists to impress judges and viewers across eight episodes of Gillette DRAFTED, which were broadcasted on The Score Television Network and on Drafted.ca.
Matt, who dropped 110lbs in nine months by adopting a healthier lifestyle, attributed his win in part to his confidence in front of the camera, something which was undoubtedly helped by his weight-loss.
Matt said: "I weighed 275 pounds, I was big - and I decided I didn't want to be big anymore. This season was all about mastering your style, and that's exactly what I feel like I've done. It's given me great confidence in front of the camera and this feels like the real me now. Drafted was such an amazing experience and I can't wait to get started."
Greg Sansone, DRAFTED mentor and VP Programming and Production at The Score, said: "Matt was consistently the strongest performer during the competition and we're excited about him coming on board. He proved that he had the edge in terms of all-round ability against some very talented finalists."
For the first time in the show's history, viewers were also able to vote for their favourite finalist via social media, with the final total combined with the judges' own scores for on-air presence, sports IQ and social presence.
Rob Chambers, Gillette Brand Manager, said: "The theme of this year's season was to be the master of your style, and that's exactly what Matt accomplished. By combining the confidence drawn from his healthier lifestyle with an impressive sports IQ, we saw Matt as a sports personality who looks and feels his best. Matt stepped up his game to win Gillette Drafted in the face of some incredibly stiff competition."
