The survey reveals that a whopping 94% of single New Yorkers polled would like to settle down and find a long-term relationship in the city. Luckily for those singles, it is a great place to increase your chances, as 47% of people who have moved to NYC in the last five years reported they are dating more since moving there, with 56% of those singles stating they feel like they have a larger pool of singles to choose from. The survey also touched on many New York-specific dating topics, such as how far people were willing to commute for love and whether singles were willing to date beyond their own borough. Highlights of this data include:
- Dating Outside Your Borough: 94% of New York singles are willing to date outside of their borough. But of course, New Yorkers still have some have boundaries: 71% of them are willing to travel for love if that certain someone requires less than a 40-minute commute. Despite our love for Staten Islanders like Rick Schroder and Christina Aguilera, only 8% of respondents living in Manhattan say they are willing to date someone who lives in Staten Island. The most desirable boroughs singles chose to date from were Brooklyn and Manhattan.
- Perfect Date Spot: The West Village is a great choice, with 44% of singles naming it as the best neighborhood for a date. Places to avoid? A chain restaurant (31%), karaoke bar (23%) and Times Square (21%) were the least appealing choices, according to the survey's respondents.
- Sexiest Job: Ladies reported that firemen (30%) and Wall Street executives (26%) were the sexiest New York professions for men.
- Big City Spending: 83% of New Yorkers say that the higher cost of living affects how much they are spending on a date, and 57% of the women polled say they are even willing to split the bill on a first date.
