Stir events bridge online and offline dating, taking guesswork out of the bar scene
TORONTO, Aug. 26, 2013 /CNW/ - Match.com, the world's largest online dating site, is transforming the way Canadians date once again with the launch of Stir live events in Canada with its new initiative, Stir. Debuting nationally this week with events in Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver and Ottawa, Stir will bring together singles in hundreds of events across the country and effectively eliminate the distinction between online and offline dating.
"Whether it's online or over a drink at a Stir event, Match.com makes meeting new people easy," said Luke Zaientz, VP of Events at Match.com.
"There is no one way to meet people, and Canadians know a big part of dating is going out and being social. The success of Stir in the United States has been immense in our first year and we're now ready to provide Canadian singles with more ways to connect, stirring up the dating landscape once again."
Different from the bar scene
According to a nationally representative survey of more than one thousand singles, 'fatigue with the bar scene' is among the top five reasons why Canadians begin online dating.1 Now Match.com is redefining how singles 'meet at a bar' by removing the uncertainty of relationship statuses, giving singles the green light to approach whomever they find interesting.
When Canadians go to a Stir happy hour event, everyone will be single, everyone will be looking to meet someone, and each event seeks to include members from similar ages and locations. In short, Stir addresses some of the fundamental pitfalls of a typical night out, and even wingmen and wingwomen are welcome.
Stir is also announcing an "Invite a Member" feature, which puts the power of creating the event guest list in member's hands. This tool allows each member to invite their connections from the site, or matches, to the event. Members can access this feature after they RSVP to an event. Additionally, at each local event, attendees will be able to leverage their mobile devices to see who's checked in, view profiles, pictures, and more.
Coming to a venue near you
Starting today, members can sign up for a Stir event by logging into their Match.com account and clicking on the 'Events' tab. Invitations are also sent to members based on their location and the demographic information they provide Match.com in their profile.
With the Canadian launch of Stir, Match has singles covered both online and offline.
