MassMutual Donates $155,000 To Non-profit Organizations On Behalf Of Financial Professionals
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., June 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) has awarded $155,000 to eligible non-profit organizations through its annual Community Service Awards (CSA) program. The awards, which include six $5,000 awards, ten $10,000 awards and one $25,000 award, are given on behalf of MassMutual financial professionals who demonstrate outstanding commitment to non-profit organizations in their local community.
"Volunteerism is an important part of helping community organizations grow and thrive so they can continue to help those who need their services," said Nick Fyntrilakis, Vice President of Community Responsibility, MassMutual. "We are proud of the great work that many of our financial professionals do with non-profits across the country, especially the dedication they show to the causes they support which are often near and dear to their hearts."
This year's $25,000 award winner is David Stephens, a financial professional with Stephens & LaRoche Financial Partners, in Virginia Beach, VA. Stephens is recognized for his work with the Southeastern Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, which works on a local level to enhance care and support for all those affected by Alzheimer's and other dementias.
Stephens has been a strong advocate, volunteer, fundraiser and board member of the Alzheimer's Association since 1999. Last fall, he walked 220 miles over 8 days to raise $15,000 for the Alzheimer's Association as part of the Walk to End Alzheimer's. His passion and dedication stems from his grandmother and father, who were both diagnosed with the disease.
"The slogan we have adopted at the Alzheimer's Association says it all for me, 'The end of Alzheimer's starts with me,'" said Stephens. "Unlike cancer, heart disease and AIDS, to date there are no survivors of Alzheimer's, and I am committed to continue to raise money and awareness until we can say with confidence, 'There is no more Alzheimer's Disease.'"
Stephens is accompanied by 16 MassMutual Financial Professionals, who have provided thousands of hours of support to a wide range of non-profits including those that promote financial education, care for veterans and provide after school programs for children.
This year is MassMutual's 19th year presenting community service awards. MassMutual has contributed more than $1.5 million to charitable organizations across the country through its CSA program since its inception in 1996.
The CSA program is just one of a variety of philanthropic programs sponsored by MassMutual in support of non-profit organizations where its financial professionals live and work. Last year, in total, MassMutual provided nearly $11 million in philanthropic investments throughout the United States of which over $1.1 million supported organizations in honor of our financial professionals.
