Voter participation by shareholders reached a record high of 85.4%.
Despite an aggressive and misleading campaign by CtW, an organized labor front group, all three board members were overwhelmingly reelected by a clear majority of the shareholders voting, as certified by the Inspector of Elections.
"Today's Annual Shareholder Meeting reinforces the strength and continuity of Massey Energy to all stakeholders," said Don Blankenship, Chairman and CEO of Massey Energy Company.
This afternoon the Board of Directors took immediate action to implement majority voting, making the appropriate changes to the company's by-laws.
