The fund was established by the Council of Churches to provide direct financial assistance to the families affected by the events of April 5th.
Massey Energy officials continue to meet with these families to describe the benefits that it is providing to them immediately. These benefits are designed to ensure that no family will have to worry about missing a paycheck, paying a medical bill, or sending a child to college.
"Although we continue to focus our efforts on meeting the immediate needs of the families affected by this tragedy, there are many others who have called and asked what they can do," said Massey Energy Chairman and CEO Don Blankenship. "Although no amount of money can take the place of a lost loved one, it is my hope that our efforts and this fund will further help the families."
Individuals wishing to make a financial contribution to the fund should contact the West Virginia Council of Churches at (304) 344-3141. Online contributions are also being accepted at http://www.wvcc.org.
