Massey Energy Donates $120,000 for Scholarships and Academic Development
JULIAN, W.Va., May 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Massey Energy Company (NYSE: MEE) today announced that it has donated $120,000 to support engineering scholarships and academic development at Marshall University and West Virginia University.

The donation, designed to enhance opportunities for engineering students in West Virginia, is the second of five installments that will provide $600,000 to the engineering programs at Marshall University and West Virginia University through 2013.
"It is my hope that these scholarships will allow the best and brightest students in West Virginia to obtain the education they need to succeed," said Don Blankenship, Chairman and CEO of Massey Energy. The scholarship program is part of a broad commitment by Massey Energy to improve the quality of education in Central Appalachia. Massey Energy has a long history of contributing to education initiatives in West Virginia. Its signature education initiatives include the Doctors for Our Communities Program, which provides generous scholarships to Marshall medical school students and the Partners in Education program that provides financial assistance to primary and secondary schools in Central Appalachia.
